Meet our 2011 Reading Completers!

Andrew Walker completed the Kumon Reading Program in Jan., 2012.  He did an outstanding job of accomplishing the goal of completion.  Given the complexity of the themes of the higher levels, Andrew continually showed his critical analytical skills.  He is proof that a younger student can master and appreciate the literary greats.  He is a great role model for the younger students who have set goals to complete the reading program.  Congrats, Andrew!

Sohum Sawant  completed the Kumon Reading Program in Dec., 2011.  He is a bright young man who mastered the higher levels with an insight that showcased his comprehension skills.  With his mother's and Dr. Lo's encouragement, Sohum persevered through the high-and-lows of the final levels and succeeded in his goal.  Congrats, Sohum!

Rick Fung  completed the Kumon Reading Program in Oct., 2011.  Rick sailed through the lower and intermediate levels.  He discovered he had to apply this critical reading skills to answer the multi-layered questions when he analyzed the authors in Levels "K" and "L."  He tackled these levels with the same determination and goal of completion as each of the Reading Completers has done.  It is this goal setting and time management that is the recurring theme for a mature Kumon completer.  He mastered the final levels with ease and confidence.   Congrats, Rick!

Alice Song completed the Kumon Reading Program in September, 2011.  Alice started her reading program in June, 2007. Starting in Level AI, she worked steadily towards her goal.  Congratulations Alice!  She is currently on her way to finish the Math program too.

Mahathi Patchava completed the Kumon Reading Program in September, 2011.  Mahathi determined to finish the reading program before she left on vacation for the summer.  She basically succeeded in that goal with the exception of brushing up on a few pages that need to be turned into Kumon North America.  The last 100 pages  of the final level must be presented to Kumon North America along with the last four tests.  Mahathi approached the final levels of Kumon with a maturity that guided her in her critical reading of the well-known authors.  Congrats, Mahathi!

Jevons Liu completed the Kumon Reading Program in August, 2011.  Jevons preferred to manage his work independently which is  part of the Kumon philosophy.  His self-confidence in his ability to critically read increased significantly over the time it took for him to complete the program.  He worked very hard to complete the program, set goals for himself, and managed his work to master the skills.  Congrats, Jevons!

Alex Galvan completed the Kumon Reading Program in August, 2011.  Alex is a perfect example of a student's  goal setting for program completion.  He was going to quit Kumon with only one level to go, but after a little persuasion and Dr. Lo's $500.00 academic scholarship to reading completers, Alex's determination to complete and master the program became a top priority.  He did extra work, even when he was on vacation and at camp, to complete his Kumon before the school year began.  He did every Kumon worksheet without the aid of the answer book; he answered the questions in his own words; he applied his critical reading skills, and he asked appropriate questions to allow for discussion and mastery.  Way to go, Alex!

Varun Sagi completed the Kumon Reading Program in August, 2011.  Varun is an example of how determination produces results.  Varun set a goal of reading completion for this summer.  He did 10-20 pages per day to accomplish that goal.  At the advanced levels, ten pages per day can take 45-60 minutes.  His goal setting kept him on track.  He also planned his own work load to ensure completion under his time line.  Varun's work ethic is commendable.  Congrats, Varun!

Sai Edara completed the Kumon Reading Program in July, 2011.  Sai displayed an amazing talent for using the new vocabulary and incorporating that vocabulary into a very expressive writing style.  She was never satisfied with a simple answer to a question; she applied her critical reading skills and her new vocabulary to answer every question with depth and detail.  Sai asked questions that showed how she analyzed each literary work.  She did much outside reading to further her education of the material that was presented in Kumon.  This is another goal for Kumon students.  Congrats, Sai!

Ananya Vegesna  is the youngest Kumon Reading Completer in Dr. Lo's Edina and Eden Prairie Centers.  Ananya completed the Reading Program in September, 2011.  At ten years old, she displayed an amazingly mature and advanced skill at mastering the advanced and complicated reading levels.  Ananya read and analyzed Shakespeare with incredible ease.  She could have finished earlier, but she did a repeat to allow time for discussion about the nuances  in the various selections.  Ananya answered the questions in her own words which is evidence of her mastery of these advanced levels.  Ananya's hard work and determination are exemplary.  Congrats, Ananya!
